Brantley Gilbert on “Hell on Wheels”? Hell Yeah!

By: Tony Manfetano

Not only is Hell On Wheels one of the best shows out right now, with phenomenally capturing characters and fierce story lines, but the lily has been furthermore gilded by adding chart topping Valory Music Co. artist Brantley Gilbert to the mix. It seems self evident that a show about laying railroad in the American West would dovetail perfectly with country music. This beautiful amalgam of historical Americana and modern country grit came to fruition last week (11/2) when Hell On Wheels star Anson Mount hosted a night of acoustic jams in Nashville.

Contest winners from across this great land were gathered for an exclusive show featuring not only Brantley but songwriter friends Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip and Brian Davis. The recently engaged Gilbert played some of his best known work such as, “Country Must Be Country Wide”, and “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do”. While the others added songs they have penned for the likes of Jake Owen and Blake Shelton.

Just another example of Georgia’s ability to churn out country stars Brantley Gilbert has managed to rise above the multitude of voices vying for attention in country music. Do not let his shaped ballcap and raspy grunge sound fool you, a commendable songwriter in his own right, Brantley is not an anti-traditionalist. He may prefer to dwell along the fringe of country and rock but his style is one that lends itself swimmingly to this niche of our genre without straying too far from the “three chords and the truth” mantra of country music.

Hell On Wheels is brought to us from AMC and returns to it’s fourth season Saturday November 8th at 9/8c. Catch up with a Hell On Wheels marathon kicking off at 11am Saturday leading right up to the mid-season premier. The show is also available on Netflix. Keep up to date at amctv.com.

Brantley Gilbert is on the latter half of his Let It Ride Tour and is scheduled for dates on The Big Revival Tour with Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean in 2015. Listen for the new single, “One Hell Of An Amen”, hitting the airwaves and interwebs November 10th. Visit BrantleyGilbert.com and follow @BrantleyGilbert for tour dates and info.
