From baseball standout to Country Music star…Frankie Ballard revisits his college sports days!
The country music world may know Frankie Ballard as a blues- and rock- influenced star with three #1 hits under his belt, but back home in Michigan, he’s a role model for another one of his passions: baseball.
Frankie will be kicking off the baseball season at his alma mater, Western Michigan University, as the keynote speaker at the team’s annual Leadoff Dinner on January 25th. He played four years of baseball at WMU before pursuing music full-time, boasting a .296 batting average.
I probably would have never made it through college without baseball, so I’m thankful for that,” Frankie told Radio.com. But eventually he caught the songwriting bug and baseball had to take a backseat. As he remembered in an interview with Taste of Country, “my coach wouldn’t let me bring my guitar on the bus… I asked, but he wouldn’t let me.”
