Willie Nelson just released a cover of the Leonard Cohen classic “Tower of Song,” and it’s the perfect companion for a late-night-early-Saturday morning cup of black coffee. This little treat is from his upcoming 72nd (!) solo album “A Beautiful Time,” which will be released on April 29th, on Willie’s 89th birthday. (Happy early birthday, Willie!)
Perhaps there’s no one else who could sing Leonard’s song as convincingly as Mr. Nelson.
I believe (and feel) him when he says:
“Yeah, my friends are gone and my hair is gray.
I ache in the places where I used to play.
And I’m crazy for love but I’m not coming on.
I’m just paying my rent every day in the Tower of Song.”
Keep paying the rent, Willie. We’re still listening.
