The phrase “the apple doesn’t fall from the tree” would definitely be true for Ben Haggard. If that last name sounds familiar, it should. 23 year old Ben is Country Music Legend Merle Haggard’s youngest son and he’s following in his dad’s footsteps.
Ben was the lead guitarist for Merle’s band The Strangers. After Merle’s death on April 7th, Ben and his older brother Noel Haggard began to carry out the remainder of their dad’s tour with his band; opening for Jamey Johnson, The Oak Ridge Boys and Willie Nelson.
While he plays a pretty mean guitar, the boy also has a set of chops on him and to no surprise is a pretty good songwriter as well. Hopefully with his BMI partnership new Hag tunes will once again fill the airwaves. So for all of the true country music fans who like me, were so sad to let go of our poetic prisoner, the legacy lives on.
