Brad Paisley Comments On Country Music’s Divorce Outbreak

First it was Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert announcing their divorce in July followed by Reba McEntire & Narvel Blackstock making the same announcement after 26 years of marriage and shortly after that Jake Owen & his wife Lacey made the announcement of their split. Needless to say it was a tough summer for the marriages of in the country music industry!

Brad Paisley recently talked to Access Hollywood about the divorce outbreak, admitting that it could actually be good thing for country music in spite of its tragedy.

At first, Blake and Miranda got a divorce in our format, which is a big deal cause they are two of the biggest artists and its, and that was, that was such a bummer,” the Whiskey Lullaby singer said. “And then, Reba gets a divorce like right away, right after it. Now it’s an outbreak….Which is good for country music. That’s better songwriting you know, there’s nothing worse than ‘Aw, I love you and everything’s great.’ It’s better like, ‘you cheating, lying, no good …’ Yeah, those are the songs you want to hear.”

We think it’s safe to say that Brad won’t be jumping on the divorce bandwagon, so don’t expect any lyin’, cheatin’ no good songs from him. Paisley and his wife, Kimberly Williams Paisley, have been married for 12 years and are still going strong. The couple renewed their wedding vows on their anniversary back in March, stating that failure in their marriage is definitely not an option for them.

When asked what is the secret of success for marriages today, Paisley simply admits that he’s really not quite sure at all…

I don’t know if there’s a secret,” Paisley said in a 2011 interview with Wonderwall. “I think you have to have the same sort of priorities and outlook. You’re sharing a car. You’ve got to want to be going to the same place. You have to decide early on that failure’s not an option and that you’re going to evolve together. You’re going to change. We’ve been together now for a decade. You’re going to change. I’m so different than the total hillbilly she met.”

Brad Paisley is on board to serve as an advisor to Team Blake for The Voice’s upcoming ninth season. Be sure to tune in on Monday, September 21st at 8|7c on NBC for the premier.
