Alt-country’s Farmer Jason earns second Emmy nod

Alt-country legend and 30 year entertainment industry veteran Jason Ringenberg, or Farmer Jason, as he’s known to his fans, earned his second Emmy nomination for Best Children’s Program Mid South Region recently. The nominations were announced at a BMI reception in Nashville late November.

“I am humbled and honored to receive another Emmy nomination,” Ringenberg said. “We will definitely make room for another statue on our mantle if we win it again!”

Farmer Jason earned his first Emmy award last year for videos that appeared on Nashville Public Television and other PBS stations as interstitials airing between full length shows.

Ringenberg is also known as the founder and front man of the acclaimed punk/rock/country band Jason & the Scorchers, and he is known as a pioneer in the movement that combined traditional American roots music with modern punk rock. The band’s first two records are included on critic’s Best of the ‘80s lists, and the Country Music Hall of Fame has an exhibit dedicated to them. Jason & the Scorchers received the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance in 2008. With the band and as a solo artist Jason has released 14 major records and performed over 3,000 shows.

Ringenberg decided to record a children’s CD solely for his daughters to listen to in 2003, and A Day at the Farm with Farmer Jason was born. The record was a huge hit with not only his daughters and family but friends as well, who passed the record, filled with funny, catchy songs about guitar pickin’ chickens and rock ‘n’ roll tractors, along and made it a hit. The follow up Rockin’ in the Forest with Farmer Jason followed in 2006, and in 2008 Ringenberg partnered with Nashville Public Television to create an educational video program called It’s a Farmer Jason, which won an Emmy and now airs on several PBS stations around the country. A dvd of the program was released in 2009.
