Stormy Montana “Someone Like Me” Review

For a girl who has relatively no record-label backing, 16-year-old Stormy Montana has a hint of Miranda Lambert sass in her. With a soft voice, she sings strong songs about boys, drinking, and … Willie Nelson?? Sure, she even sings one song about biker chicks.

Montana is taking country sales by, well, ‘storm,’ with selling nearly 2,000 copies the very night her debut album, “Someone Like Me,” released; she’s even just about sold 7,000 copies in the album’s first year. On Nov. 15, Montana plans to release “Someone Like Me” worldwide to online venues for the first time ever, in hopes to tame the large overseas demand for her CD — it will be available through iTunes, Amazon, LaLa, Rhapsody, Napster and others.

“Someone Like Me” is not a disc you would normally play at high levels in your car on a road trip with your friends, but it is a pleasant little mix of ballads you can snuggle up to on a rainy night. She has strength in her voice, which tends to struggle to compete with the high levels of banjo/guitar riffs in the background, but she’s sure to be a force to reckon with in the future.

Some highlights from “Someone Like Me” include the songs “Bill Hilly,” “Sing this City Home,” “Ripple in the Water” and “Biker Chick.”
