John Prine Plays The Opry NYE With Kacey Musgraves And Jason Isbell

Grammy award winner John Prine’s 70th birthday on October 10th was officially a good one! The Mayor of Nashville declared his birthday John Prine Day and on October 11th the official numbers came in for his new album “For Better, or Worse.”

The legendary singer/songwriter could not have asked for a better birthday present! “For Better, or Worse,” is now his top-charting album, coming in at number 30 on the Billboard 200. The album debuted on the Country chart at number five, on the Billboard charts at number two and it came in at number five on the Americana/Folk chart.

“For Better, or Worse” debuted at number seven on the Independent Albums chart. It currently stands at No. 1 at Americana radio.

Released September 30th, the latest offering by the “Paradise,” singer features duets with Miranda Lambert, Alison Krause and Kacey Musgraves, as well as cover songs.

After reviewing Prine’s work, the Wall Street Journal said, “Mr. Prine excels and delights in the interactive give and take of duet comedy and drama.”

Prine released his first album in 1971. He has said of his musical career…

Hank Williams was my dad’s hero, and I wanted to impress my dad. When I started writing my own songs, it was so that he’d know that I could. If he’d have liked ballet, I’d have been Rudolf Nureyev.”

Prine has a smattering of tour dates throughout November and December. The highlight of his tour comes New Year’s Eve at the Grand Ole Opry where he will perform with Kacey Musgraves and Jason Isbell.
