The King Of Country Lives! George Strait Brings Country To Las Vegas’ New Arena

The King of Country is back! George Strait kicked off the first weekend of his “Strait to Vegas” run over the past weekend. Playing for 20K fans at the brand new Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena, proving that he’s still got it.  Strait announced he would be returning to the stage with the concert series last September. The series mark his first live shows since his farewell tour in Dallas back in 2014 for more than 100k fans at the AT&T Stadium.

Opening the evening, Kacey Musgraves took the stage full of sass and glitter looking fabulous as usual in her true rhinestone cowgirl get up. She gave the crowd a high-spirited set that included fan favorites like “Merry Go ‘Round,” “Follow Your Arrow” and “Pageant Material,” and even had some fun with her rendition of Johnny Cash’s “We’ve Been Everywhere Man”, which she nailed.

The show was everything a George fan would expect it to be, and more. He walked out on stage, and it was like he had never stopped touring. The sound was incredible, and so was the sold-out crowd. There were the classics he played, and there were some new ones sprinkled in, but the vocals and band were perfect all night! A special part of the evening was a three song tribute to Merle including ‘Mama Tried,’ ‘The Fightin’ Side of Me,’ and ‘My Life’s Been Grand.’ George still looks great and is still as humble and kind as ever. It is safe to say that George just gets better with age.”  iHeartMedia Country WSIX/Nashville MD Kimsey Kerr stated.

Strait’s Vegas set list included 28 songs, a touching tribute to the late Merle Haggard, a couple songs written by his son, Bubba and a little Johnny Cash. He ended with his classic “Unwound,” giving fans a five-song encore, knowing the show wasn’t over until he fittingly ended with “The Cowboy Rides Away.” See the complete set list here.
