The Journey Home Project Donates $100,000 To Nashville Veterans Virtual Welcome Center

The Journey Home Project, the nonprofit organization co-founded by country legend Charlie Daniels, had a record breaking year in 2016 in terms of monetary gift giving. The organization reached an astounding new level of giving this year, and by the end of 2016 had given away hundreds of thousands of dollars to multiple initiatives.

The Journey Home Project was established in 2014 by Country Music Hall of Famer Daniels, music industry veteran David Corlew, Ed Hardy, and Joe and Mercedez Longever. The project was established in order to, “make a difference in the lives of American veterans by helping to meet their education, healthcare and employment needs.”

The illustrious project gave generously throughout the year, including a check for $100,000 to Operation Stand Down Tennessee on behalf of the Nashville Serving Veterans Community Board.

They also donated over $100,000 to the Veterans and Military Family Center at Middle Tennessee State University. When the facility opened in April, it was named in honor of Daniels’ and his wife Hazel.

The impressive 2,600-square-foot, $329,000 building serves as a convenient service center for MTSU’s approximately 1,000 student veterans and family members.

Daniels’ charity also gave $50,000 to Shepherd’s Men to support their 1,400-mile run from Boston to Atlanta.

In October the group presented a check to the organization, A Soldier’s Child, which is affiliated with the Tennessee Titan’s, Tailgate for a Cause.

In addition to its generous one-time gifts, The Journey Home Project maintains several ongoing charitable functions. Each year they give a birthday present to the children of military personnel who have lost their lives defending our country. The project also provides mentorship programs and scholarships to the more than 2,500 children who participate in this program.

The monies provided by The Journey Home Project are given by generous individual donors and raised through events like the annual gala held at The Palm Restaurant in Downtown Nashville. In November the Charlie Daniels’ 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam, which featured Kid Rock, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton and others, raised a significant amount for the non-profit.

The Journey Home Project is a not-for profit organization that assists other not-for-profit groups to secure funds that aid causes benefiting veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

Their incredible record of charitable giving has made a tremendous difference in the lives of our heroic American patriots.
