When asked about his plans for Father’s Day, Jim Avett simply said, “Not a thing. There’s nothing special about Father’s Day as far as I’m concerned. I get the gift of being a daddy every day.” If you’re ever lucky enough to spend an hour talking with this man, you’ll realize that every day really […]
Whether she’s succumbed to temptation or triumphed over tears, Danielle Peck’s latest album is a healthy compilation of fresh and familiar. Her sassy, seductive tone rolls through her rhythms, naturally ebbing and flowing with the song’s tide. Peck’s sharp, edgy sound has been placed in the foreground of a pop-vibed band, making for an upbeat […]
By Lisa Kiser Turn it UP! Although the temperature was -10 outside, the heat was on as Michigan native Josh Gracin returned home to Central Michigan University to shatter the stillness of winter. Gracin is one of the most underrated performers in country today, so I was excited to spend the evening with a crowd […]
Raw. Real. Rebelicious. County music’s newest outlaw, Jamey Johnson, belongs in the ranks of Hank, Merle and Walylon. His sophmore album, That Lonesome Song, is a train ride of hard-living, hard-drinking and heartache, the kind of music that can be felt in your gut no matter how many times you’ve heard the songs. The first […]
After seeing Johnny T & Due South perform live back in November, I knew that I was in for a treat as I sat down to review their six-song EP. Can I just say right now how freakin’ awesome these guys are? I am positively hooked on Johnny T’s voice and southern drawl. The first […]
By Melissa Barnes Break out the eggnog and gather around the fire with your loved ones while you enjoy this lovely Christmas compilation from Colin Raye. This would be the perfect soundtrack to listen to while opening gifts with your family or while finishing some last minute gift wrapping (which is exactly what I am […]
By Melissa Barnes ‘Tis the season for spending time with loved ones, baking Christmas cookies and mistletoe! And what holiday season would be complete without a holiday collection to go along with it? This, my friends, is where Miss Julianne Hough comes in. Hough released her very own 8-song holiday EP this past October that […]
By Kyle McCraw Billy Bob Thornton and his new band have been busy this year, not only releasing a double disc debut, but also following with this Christmas album less six months later. And, even though a largely unheard of band releasing a Christmas album seems like a bad idea, there are some nice original […]
By Kyle McCraw For a little context, 1968 was the same year Neil Young left Buffalo Springfield and the year before the release of his first solo record. So, it should come as no shock that a little more than half of the songs here are from his Buffalo Springfield days (including “Mr. Soul,” and […]
Contrary to the name, Country Music Pride is not just about country—we're also about bluegrass, folk, alt-country and a fair amount of classic rock—but most of all, we're about love. We built this site because we love the music and wanted to provide an online music source for a genre that didn't quite have its Pitchfork Media or Nah Right equivalent. We seek to provide engaging, fresh content daily, ranging from news and features to album reviews to in-depth interviews with some of the top performers today, from Dan Tyminski to Dolly Parton.
This is a site for the fans. We believe an online music source is nothing if the fans can't participate, so we're always trying to find new avenues for our readers to get involved. We have crowd-participation open threads on hot country topics, plenty of fun promotional contests and we encourage written contributions by dedicated country fans.
So go Country Music Pride...because if you say you like "everything, but country," we'll know you're lying.
