Reba McEntire Announced as Inaugural Winner of Nash Icon Award

Congratulations to Country legend Reba McEntire on being announced as the first-ever winner of the Nash Icon award, which will be presented to her during the 1st Annual American Country Countdown Awards on Monday, December 15th. As a tribute to the Grammy award winning singer, Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson (who is also McEntire’s stepdaughter-in-law) will perform some of Reba’s classic hits, followed by a special award presentation by her longtime friend Kix Brooks.

Kix Brooks, who as half of the Country duo Brooks & Dunn topped the charts with Reba in 1998 with their hit song If You See Him/If You See Her, commented on his friend’s remarkable career.

“Besides being one of the classiest people to ever grace Nashville, Reba has not just done it her way, but she’s gotten all of her recognition the old fashioned way. She’s earned it,” said Brooks. “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to tour with her, dragging 21 trucks and 19 buses around, and to hear her sing by the campfire. Besides being a talented actor and host, she is seriously one of the best singers I’ve ever heard. Reba sings with her head, her heart and that amazing voice. She’s a treasure Nashville should forever be grateful for.”

In an exclusive interview with Country Weekly, McEntire remarked on how honored and flattered she was at receiving the prestigious award. “As a singer, a person in the music business, ‘icon’ means somebody that I look up to,” Reba stated. “A person that has put in their time and energy and worked hard to get to where they are today.”

It’s hard to believe that McEntire says she’s still learning new things about performing every day! She continues to go to live concerts to watch other artists bond with their audiences and see how much fun they are having entertaining their fans onstage. This is something the singer says she does to help her to be inspired and continue to improve her own shows. Some the artists McEntire mentions she gets her inspiration from are Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Cher.

The December 15th American Country Countdown Awards‘ live telecast will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX. You will also see additional performances from Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Brett Eldredge. Make sure to set your DVR’s!
