Luke Bryan’s Midweek Party in Virginia Beach

Luke Bryan proved that he doesn’t need a weekend to get a party started at his concert last Wednesday in Virginia Beach. The CMA Entertainer of the Year proved that he is worthy of the title- his Thursday night show in Virginia Beach sold out in just seven minutes, prompting the venue to book him for a second night on Wednesday. The 20,000 seat Farm Bureau Live amphitheater was packed, despite the early work day that was sure to follow for most of the crowd. It is clear that Luke Bryan has built up a loyal following- his fans will come out to see him even on a hot and humid weekday.

DustinBryan brought along Dustin Lynch and Randy Houser as part of his “Kick the Dust Up” tour. Dustin Lynch opened up the night with a fun loving set that warmed up the crowd without overwhelming them. I think Lynch’s popularity will grow with time, as he shares Luke Bryan’s pretty boy charm. He flashes a smile so white that I am sure the fans on the back lawn couldn’t have missed his pearly white grin.

Randy Houser’s onstage persona was markedly different from Lynch and Bryan’s. With his dark sunglasses and black leather, he effused a sort of bad boy rock star vibe, but with a voice so resonant that if you closed your eyes you would think you were listening to a gospel singer. He performed an acoustic version of “Like a Cowboy” that showcased his vocals in a way that’s not shown through his records. Houser provided the powerhouse vocals that blew the crowd away.

While the openers were great and clearly deserving of a spot on the tour, there was such an excitement that rippled through the crowd when Luke Bryan took the stage that it was clear who has reached superstar status in the country world. Fans lost it every time Bryan shook his hips (which was very often to say the least) or gave his flirty wink and smile. The singer knows how to command a crowd and the crowd loves him for it. His show is pure fun. Every song he plays is a radio hit and the fans sing along with every word.

Luke BryanBryan doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is refreshing to see from someone who is so obviously successful. He pulled his cell phone out and told the crowd how he just downloaded a DJ app, which was followed by twenty minutes of messing around with different beats accompanied by his piano playing. He even brought out Lynch and Houser and the trio covered Maroon 5’s hit, “Sugar”. The three finished their song by taking a “selfie”, showing that they were there to have fun and let loose with the fans that appreciate Bryan’s playful nature. His fans love his shows so much that one man, a former television star from “Survivor”, decided to pull his girlfriend up on stage and propose to her in the middle of the show.

If you get the chance, go to a stop on the “Kick The Dust Up Tour”, I guarantee Luke Bryan will put on one hell of show.
