Just In…Justin Moore Promotes New Music With “Waffles & Whiskey Tour”

Written by Josie Bisto

Country Music PrideSmall town boy Justin Moore has been a busy man lately!  He recently made a stop in Nashville to celebrate his fourth album release titled “Kinda Don’t Care”.  The stop was one of many in a string of promotional stops during the past week titled the “Whiskey & Waffles Tour”; in which Justin packed his days full of media interviews, meet and greets, free performances and post-show VIP hangs.

JM-Country Music PrideOther stops included Little Rock, Knoxville and Charlotte.  After hours of one on one media interviews Justin headed to the Big Machine store to give a little one and one attention to his fans who had a line out the door eagerly awaiting his arrival.  He continued with a 3-stop honky tonk bar hop with short performances at Honky Tonk Central, followed by Rippy’s and ending with a longer set at the world famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.

Country Music PrideThe night wasn’t quite over as Justin and all his VIP guests headed to Waffle House where we enjoyed a late night breakfast.  Justin even hopped in the kitchen and whipped up a plate for his label president and CEO Scott Borchetta!

“Kinda Don’t Care” is an album 3 years in the making, though Justin stated it was tracked in only 3 days!  Released August 12th, the album is holding at #1 on the iTunes Top Country Albums chart.  I had the privilege of sitting down with Justin and asking him a few questions about his new album and his career.  Here’s what he had to say…

Country Music Pride: It’s been suggested the title “Kinda Don’t Care” reflects your feelings about political correctness, is this true?

Justin Moore: “That’s not where the title came from. We did some different things on this album as far as production; it’s a little more modern than what we’ve done in the past. I had some apprehensions because I didn’t want to disappoint my fans.  My producer said if you sing it, it’s gonna sound country.  I said he’s right, I need to not really care as much as I am. But, as a society right now we’re so consumed by being politically correct that half the time we’re not correct.  Another reason this title may make sense is we just all need to do and say the right things and if someone is offended by that, that’s their own problem. Live your life the way you feel that you should.  Just do the right thing”.

Country Music Pride: When selecting a song list for an album what do you look for?

Justin Moore: “Either I write it, or I pick a song that sounds like I would have written or wish that I had written.  Up until this album I’ve written 90% of what I’ve recorded, this album was a little different because we did a different type of album and my forte is not writing the more modern type of stuff.  It’s pretty simple, the best song wins”.

Country Music Pride: What’s your favorite song off the new album?

Justin Moore: “I’ve got a couple.  One of the more traditional sounding things is the title track “Kinda Don’t Care”.  One of the new aged type songs is “Somebody Else Will”.

Country Music Pride:  Favorite song to belt out in the shower?

Justin Moore: “Oh man, I found myself ever since Prince died singing “Purple Rain” all the time”.

Country Music Pride:  Most memorable moment or highlight in your career?

Justin Moore:“Probably my Opry debut and when I won an ACM award a couple years ago”.

Country Music Pride:  Most embarrassing moment if you’re willing to share it?

Justin Moore: “We did my 1st headlining tour about 2-3 years ago.  The first night, like the 2nd or 3rd song, I fell off the stage onto one of the bike racks, right on my rib cage and spilt this guy’s beer… I get back up and then 2 songs later fall off the stage again, same guy, spilt another beer of his and I broke a rib”.

Country Music Pride:  How do you respond to negative comments on social media and the internet?

Justin Moore: “I don’t look at ’em at all.  You can drive yourself crazy by doing that”.

Country Music Pride:  What’s your favorite meal at Waffle House?

Justin Moore: “Texas cheesesteak, hash-browns scattered, covered in pepper”.

I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend the day with Justin and his team!
