Interview: Kendal Conrad Talks New Single, Musical Influences And More…

Kendal Conrad is a singer, actor, published writer, and award-winning songwriter… she has appeared on MTV and has performed onstage with Keith Urban and Walker Hayes! Kendal just finished recording an EP produced by Matt McVaney (Kane Brown, Jessie James Decker, Levi Hummon) and she co-wrote all the songs on the EP.

Kendal recently released her new single, “Come to Your Senses” and will release her EP very soon. We had the opportunity to talk with her about her experiences as an artist and the process of writing and recording her EP. Check out the interview here…

Can you tell us your inspiration behind your latest single, “Come to Your Senses”?

“Come to Your Senses” was ultimately inspired by missed opportunity. I’ve been frustrated with the whole process of dating for awhile now, so I decided to vent those frustrations and write a song about it. To every guy who felt a connection and didn’t take a chance on asking out that cute girl over there: this song is about you.

Who would you consider your greatest musical influences?

My biggest influences are Whitney Houston, Taylor Swift, and Reba. I always say Whitney taught me how to sing, Taylor taught me how to write songs, and Reba taught me what it meant to be a country artist.  And between them? What a catalogue of incredible music and performances! I can get lost on Youtube if I go down that rabbit hole. (Whitney Houston live in South Africa — you’re welcome)

If you could do a duet with any artist, who would it be and why?

I’m aware of how random this is, but I would love to duet with Michael Bolton. I think he has one of the sexiest male voices, and I would love to try to match those intense vocals on a ballad.

What has been the highlight of your career so far or your most memorable moment?

A career highlight was definitely getting to open for Blake Shelton at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. There were 18,000 people there, so when I got up on stage, it was a sea of faces. The craziest view from the stage I think I’ve ever seen. Not to mention I got to actually meet Blake as well as Carrie Underwood’s rocking Calia team.

What message would you like your fans to take away from your music?

I really followed my gut with this new music, lyrically and musically. I realized pretty quick that what I wanted to create was not the norm for country music, but I did it anyway. So the takeaway is: don’t let anyone tell you who you are.

We feel great things are going to continue to come for you. Where would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years as an artist

Aw, thank you! In the next 5 years, I’d like to be support on a major tour (I’m looking at you, Keith Urban). Hopefully promoting a single to country radio. Meeting new fans. Eating more pancakes. Not giving up.

We always like to know, what is something fun your fans may not know about you or you would like them to know about you?

I help my mom package fishing lures. No, really. I’m learning all about woolly buggers and which fish are attracted to which insects. Next fishing expedition? #ExpertStatus
