Hell Yeah! WKLB BOSTON WINS CMA Major Market Radio Station of the Year

“We’re from the City, we’re from the City, we’re from the City … and we like it that way”!

And apparently so does the Country Music Association, as it just awarded 102.5 WKLB Boston Country Radio Station the 2012 CMA Award for Major Market Radio Station of the Year.

“CMA knows the importance of Country radio to our genre,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Steve Moore. “We’ve spent 2012 highlighting the hard work of these radio professionals, and we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on our best and brightest – the CMA BROADCAST AWARD winners.”

Can we raise our red SOLO cups and get a Hell Yeah! Boooooston!!!

Here’s What Happened
On October 8 national recording artist and CMA Awards co-host Brad Paisley personally called WKLB Boston Country radio station Program Director Mike Brophey to share this awesome award winning news with him. To which Mike has since left this message for the listeners :

“To all our listeners ~ One of the most exciting events in the history of Country 102.5 is being the recipient of the Country Music Association Major Market Station of the Year award. We are thrilled here at the station, but we are also thrilled for our listeners! It’s great that their favorite station has been nationally recognized. Boston has truly become a country destination!
Mike Brophey ~ Program Director

On Nov. 1 the CMA Radio Station of the Year recipients were recognized during the 46th Annual CMA Awards on ABC-TV.

BOSTON – It’s a place, a perspective and an attitude which numerous country artists boast about:

Toby Keith “Boston’s in my Top 5”;

Dierks Bentley made a crowd-pleasing point that “Boston is one of his favorite cities, much thanks to the excessive quantity of bars, the incredible amount of history that the city holds, and of course, the fact that the Freedom Trail apparently leads to a bar.”;

Eric Church “the ‘Blood Sweat & Beers’ Tour will go lots of places, but nobody, nobody gave it to us like you guys”;

Keith Urban “They said ‘Please Come to Boston’ so we did. I love Boston, you’re always so good to us.”;

Kenney Chesney – I’m pretty sure he wrote a song about me, I mean us – “She’s from Boston”.

Boston? you say. Country? Was this rigged?

What Could a Big ‘ol City Like Boston Know About Country Music . . .
Not convinced a Big ‘ol City like Boston knows a thing or two about country music? Well, this is a sample of what you get when you tune in to Boston Country Music and the 2012 CMA Radio Station of the Year …

Artits like Kenny Chesney and Taylor Swift selling out double billed stadium shows at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriot’s;

Toby Keith having just celebrated the Grand Opening of his I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant chain in Boston (Foxborough), MA back on September 2011 where you’ll quite often find WKLB personalities, sponsored events, major country music artists such as Montgomery Gentry, Ronnie Dunn, Phil Vassar, Eli Young Band, Krystal Keith (yes, as in Toby Keith’s daughter) and local country artists such as Digger Dawg, Tom Dixon and Thirty 6 Red;

Jason Aldean having just being announced as the FIRST country music artist to HEADLINE a concert at the home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park, selling out and adding a second Fenway show to his 2013 Night Train Tour;

And that’s just SOME of the fun that takes place in the name of Boston Country Music phenomena.

You also, at any given moment of the day have WKLB radio personalities attempting to strain your brain as they ride shotgun to school or work, taking your music orders at lunch, spinning tunes, interviewing artists (on air and in person) making you forget you’re gridlocked on the artery at rush hour, sprucing up dinner cleanup, homework hour and your entire evening with a comedic-hosted radio request hour.

Not to mention hosting a MYRIAD of events around town, in bars and for great causes !

Don’t Worry ! YOU Can Join the fun at WKLB
