Happy Anniversary: George & Norma Strait Celebrate Their 44th Wedding Anniversary

As we affectionately call him the “King Of Country”, George Strait has had a successful career beginning 1976 with over 80 top ten hits. And to add to his successful career, he’s had an equally successful marriage to someone who has been by his side the whole way.

Today, George and his wife Norma celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary. The couple was married on December 4, 1971 in Mexico…and they have proved that true love can prevail the test of time.

Norma was the first girl I ever loved. We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn’t see each other for a long time after that. Then one day, I thought, ‘I’m missing the boat here,’ and we started dating again.”

Not long after they were married George enlisted in the army. He was stationed in Hawaii and that is where he formed the band “Rambling Country” then eventually moving on as the solo artist we now know and love.

We love each other and we still like each other,” he said. “We’re so blessed that we were able to experience life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad.” George told PEOPLE a few years back.

My favorite George Strait song and his #1 hit, “I Cross My Heart” (Pure Country), sings about promising to do all that you got to give to make all your dreams come true, which is exactly what George strives to do for Norma every day.

I CROSS MY HEART LYRICS

Our love is unconditional, we knew it from the start. I see it in your eyes, you can feel it from my heart. From here on after let’s stay the way we are right now, And share all the love and laughter that a lifetime will allow.

I cross my heart and promise to Give all I’ve got to give to make all your dreams come true. In all the world you’ll never find a love as true as mine.

You will always be the miracle that makes my life complete, And as long as there’s a breath in me, I’ll make yours just as sweet. As we look into the future, it’s as far as we can see, So let’s make each tomorrow be the best that it can be.

And if along the way we find a day it starts to storm, You’ve got the promise of my love to keep you warm. In all the world you’ll never find a love as true as mine, A love as true as mine.
