Dolly Parton’s 1976 Syndicated Variety Show On getTV Monday

In its continuing efforts to uncover classic film and television rarities, getTV spotlights iconic country star Dolly Parton with back-to-back half hour episodes of her 1976 syndicated variety series “DOLLY” on Monday, October 26th, at 9PM ET.

The two shows will air as part of rotating slate of variety series and specials at 9 PM ET during the network’s recently launched weekly Monday night block of classic variety programming.  On this date, “DOLLY” follows regularly scheduled “The Judy Garland Show” at 8 PM with special guest, Garland’s daughter Liza Minnelli.

The first episode of “DOLLY ” at 9 PM ET, welcomes Canadian country songstress Anne Murray joining Dolly and her brother Randy Parton for renditions of the Dolly’s own popular composition “All I Can Do” and a cover of Dobie Gray’s rock n’ roll staple “Drift Away.”

Then, at 9:30 PM ET, Kenny Rogers duets with Dolly on “He’s Got The Whole World in His Hands,” “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” and on “Spanish Eyes.” Seven years before they topped the charts together with ‘Islands in the Stream’ in 1983, this episode features their first work together, with chemistry evident from the start.

Dolly Parton is one of the true musical geniuses of the past century, both for her heartfelt songwriting and singing.  And she combines it with a one-of-a-kind persona that has made her one of America’s most beloved entertainers,” said Jeff Meier, senior vice president of programming, getTV. “With the recent news that she will be developing biopics based on her life and songs, these classic variety episodes are a great way for fans both old and new to get a glimpse of Dolly at a time when her star was really beginning to take shape, setting her on the path to becoming the influential icon she is today.”

In December, a new two-hour broadcast network movie will air, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” which is based on the true story of Parton’s Tennessee upbringing. The movie takes place inside the tight-knit Parton family as they struggle to overcome devastating tragedy and discover the healing power of love, faith, and a raggedy patchwork coat that helped make Parton who she is today.  Alyvia Lind will portray 9-year-old Dolly Parton, with Jennifer Nettles as Parton’s mother, Rick Schroeder as her father and Gerald McRaney as her grandfather.
