Brandon Bush and The Long Drive Home

Brandon Bush has had a ton of sweet gigs in a career spanning more than 20 years.

At age four, he and his older brother played a fiddle duet to open a Dolly Parton show. He’s been featured on Grammy-winning albums by Train and John Mayer, toured and played with Shawn Mullins, Sugarland (his brother Kristian’s band — that’s Brandon on the right in the photo), Amy Ray, Chris Stamey, Kodac Harrison, Ellis Paul, Michelle Penn and countless others. His studio credits include piano, Hammond organ, vintage keyboards, synths, drums, and drum programming, including the classic loop behind Shawn Mullins’ hit β€œLullabye.” He’s appeared (with Sugarland) on both the CMT and ACM awards shows.

And he has an armful of tattoos.

Recently added to his resume: Radio DJ.

WMLB-AM1690
WMLB-AM 1690, Atlanta’s “voice of the arts” and arguably the city’s most eclectic radio station (if not the Southeast’s), features Bush on The Long Drive Home, the 5-7 pm drive-time show aptly named for the city’s horrendous traffic jams.

Peppered between shows like “Backroads and Banjos” and “Cowboys and Campfires,” listeners can hear Waylon Jennings, Joe Tex, Chuck Berry, Lavern Baker, Keb’ Mo’, The Kinks, Dennis Brown, Chuck Willis, Eliott Smith, Beck, James Brown, Bon Iver, Lead Belly, Doc Watson, The Ramones, a duet by Rosanne Cash & Elvis Costello, and Edith Piaf all in the same hour.

On a recent Monday, Bush played “My Life on the Road”, an audio diary of his time touring with Sugarland. It was a fascinating depiction of the logistics of pulling together an impressive stage show night after night, where “nature and love” play an important part in relieving stress.

Listen to WMLB’s live streaming audio HERE, and be sure to check out Brandon Bush on The Long Drive Home, Mondays from 5-7 pm EDT.

I’m listening to the station live right now! How did I never know about them until now? Thanks so much for this! Do they sell t-shirts or bumper stickers? I’d like to represent!
