Donica Knight Releases Second Single “Acting Like A Lady”

donica knightSouthern Country rocker Donica Knight releases her second single, “Acting Like A Lady,” from her EP “Can’t Buy a Southern Girl.” Showcasing her unique blend of Southern rock, Country, Blues and good old East Memphis sound, defining her music style, “Acting Like A Lady”, has already gone viral on Internet radio. The single drops on the airwaves on November 14th.

With the release of her brand new EP “Can’t Buy a Southern Girl” came the March release of the scorching track “Love Ain’t A Prize,” which climbed the Music Row Country Breakout Chart to become the highest ranking indie artist entry. The single also debuted at #1 on the iTunes New Release Country chart, while the EP reached #2 New Release Country and #8 New Release All Genres.

I wanted to make a record from my heart, about what I’m experiencing in my life right now. ‘Acting Like A Lady’ is a mix of the southern rock and country that I grew up listening to; some of that Muscle Shoals vibe with horns, Motown-ish background vocals, and of course, lots of rock ‘n’ roll guitars.” says Knight.

The song was written by Donica Knight, producer Jim Huff, Billy Alexander and Justin Flagg. With sultry grooves and catchy lyrics like, “I’m gonna mind my manners, but tonight I’m gonna live like a queen. The only thing that matters is …nothing else matters but me, I’m gonna shake all my problems loose so don’t flatter yourself with you.” The chorus “And if I’m acting like a lady don’t expect me to apologize” is an expression of Donica’s “young independence and the idea that if you got your own style, you can show yourself off, you don’t have to apologize for being you.”

A stunning music video for “Acting Like A Lady” has been well received both on Indie and Internet video platforms, and has exploded with her fans on YouTube on her official Donica Knight Music Channel. The video was directed by award-winning Grammy-nominated veteran director Mo Fitzgibbon, known for her work with Gloria Estefan and Shakira. Produced by Knight and Fitzgibbon, “Acting Like A Lady” is elegance and class mixed with Knight’s streetwise sweetness and tomboy rebel girl.

The video’s premise: Donica and her girlfriends’ Friday Ladies Night Out starts with good ole’ fashion fun and some impromptu line dancing. As the party revs up the visuals transition to a fantasy with Donica transforming into a Queen with her ladies-in-waiting, celebrating in a lavish medieval party setting, toasting their independence and their girl power.

The music video was an Official Selection at The LA Femme Film Festival and premiered at the Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles in October. An old-soul road warrior by nature, Donica has excited, entertained and charmed crowds on over 350 concert bills for country and rock superstars Luke Bryan, Jake Owen, Craig Morgan, Kid Rock, Neal McCoy, Hank Williams Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Paul Thorn, Kenny Rogers, Kellie Pickler, Blackberry Smoke, Joe Nichols, The Band Perry, Styx, Chris Janson, and many others.

Donica’s most highlighted performance to date, opening for Country Music Hall of Famer Jamey Johnson this summer…captivated the sold-out crowd with her new EP, and received standing ovations for her original music.

Spreading goodwill and supporting charities are a top priority. Recently she shared the stage with Craig Morgan at fundraiser for a Military Tribute to War Hero Chris Kyle.

In life, you’re given a gift, and mine was always singing. Being able to perform for a living, and doing what I love to do is a great feeling. To all my Southern Hearts: hello and here I come!” Donica says…

With her “Can’t Buy A Southern Girl” Tour in full swing, Donica is about to take her music to new levels, embracing new listeners across the USA, with her “southern twang” and “modern-day Loretta Lynn meets Shania” personas.

Donica Knight’s Music channel, on both YouTube and VEVO, features unplugged live performances of her catchy tunes and her eye-popping music videos, along with behind-the-scenes videos of the making of her new album, and stunning performances of her songs.
